Hearts & Hands is the social action arm of the synagogue.  This committee coordinates and supports activities that further the principles of tikkun olam, chesed and tzedakah.  Efforts are focused within our own congregation as well as outside in our local community and across the country.  The committee welcomes new members who would like to get more involved.  Some of Hearts & Hands major projects include:

*Collections- Hearts & Hands organizes collections several times throughout the year, including its Annual Backpack Food Drive benefitting children of McRobert’s Kentucky, a Passover Food Drive, and the Holiday Toy Drive.

*Congregation B’nai Israel’s Mitzvah Day- Hearts & Hands helps run this event, which brings together representatives from over 30 charitable organizations for a day of learning and practicing tzedakah, chesed and tikkun olam.

*Interfaith Hospitality Network- Hearts & Hands coordinates congregational hosting for families from the Interfaith Hospitality Network.  For one week CBI opens it’s doors and welcomes four to five families into our synagogue to live. CBI provides meals, a comfortable place to sleep and hospitality for these families. This provides a needed service to the community and provides our congregants with a tangible and meaningful was to practice our core principles tzedakah, chesed and tikkun olam.
