Congregation B'nai Israel
A CENTER OF JEWISH LIFE
Congregation B’nai Israel is a warm and welcoming congregation, cultivating a nurturing atmosphere where our members feel comfortable participating fully in all aspects of synagogue life, including learning, prayer, social opportunities, and the holy work of chesed (acts of lovingkindness). Especially during these times, there are no geographic boundaries to your full participation in our synagogue. Every aspect of our communal life is accessible online. No matter your zip code, you are invited into our sacred community, our sacred space.
Featuring one of Essex County’s only musical Rabbi-Cantor teams, the uplifting voices of our musically trained Rabbi and Cantor enhance our services in ways that few other congregations in the area can. If you’re a music lover, CBI’s services are perfect for you. We also value your participation. From leading prayers and reading Torah to offering teachings, those who seek meaningful growth opportunities and different ways to contribute to the spiritual life of our congregation and participate in our services will find occasion to do so.
At CBI, we believe that inclusion and belonging should be woven into the fabric of everything we do. We aspire to make every individual, family, and household in our community feel welcome to participate fully in all aspects of synagogue life. We recognize all gender and sexual identities, embrace Jews of Color, nurture Judaism within households comprising more than one culture or faith, and support individuals with special needs.
CBI Happenings … Something for Everyone!
Daily Calendar
Learning for All Ages
Preschool
CBI Preschool is a place where Jewish customs, holidays and basic concepts are integrated in daily school life. We are open to the community and accept families of all backgrounds as part of our play-based, nurturing program. Our small classes and low student-to-teacher ratio mean individual attention that enables each child to grow and develop at his or her own pace.
Religious School
Blanche Bayar Religious School is committed to meeting the needs of every student and the schedule of every family. Our weekly, individual online classes allow teachers to customize learning. Grade-level classes on Sundays and Tuesdays build connection and community among families who will one day celebrate b’nai mitzvah.
Teens
Our youth in grades 8 through 12 are invited and encouraged to participate in a variety of experiences to continue their Jewish learning. Teens have a choice of vibrant youth groups, plus two different education programs with an opportunity to work as assistants in our religious school.
Adult Education
Lifelong learning is a cherished value and tradition here at CBI. Our adult education program engages our learners in a wide variety of formats and compelling topics, scheduled at various times during the week to encourage participation by all ages and stages.
