Mindy Klein – Director of Early Childhood Education – CBI Camp 2024

What a wonderful summer it has been so far! For the last five weeks, campers at the preschool have been immersed in exploring new things, making new friends, and building community. Each week the campers have experienced a different fun theme. This week we taught the campers the concept of teamwork in our camp community. They loved cheering on their friends, and to celebrate their teamwork, each camper created his/her very own ribbon or trophy. Go Team Go!!

When I asked the children what their favorite camp weeks have been so far, unanimously the answers were Maccabia and Hometown Heroes. Maccabia at our camp was a mini game competition between two teams, blue and gold. Activities included bowling, octopus ring toss, find your team color, duckies and balls, and learning about the blue and gold colors.

Hometown Heroes was a huge success with our campers. They were visited by the local police and fire departments and EMS. We explained that a hometown hero is a person in our local community who makes a significant positive impact through their actions. Hometown Heroes are admired for making their community a better place. Campers learned about the heroes’ job duties, the different kinds of equipment they use, and safety issues. Our Hometown Heroes allowed the campers to step inside their  vehicles and try on some equipment. This week’s theme taught the campers about the concept of being a hero and helping in one’s community.

As I reflect on the last five weeks, my heart is full seeing our campers and staff each day. Thank you to our camp parents for entrusting your children to us. The counselors were energized, loving, and inspiring. They were committed to getting to know the campers in meaningful ways. The wonderful thing about camp is that it’s more than just a place to spend summer days — it’s an experience that becomes a part of who each child is. The campers acquired a greater sense of friendship and teamwork by being part of a loving community and creating a better world.

Looking forward to the next three weeks of camp! Wishing you all a great rest of your summer.

Warmest regards,
