Dear Congregation B’nai Israel Community,
As you may be aware, we have been involved in a search for the past few months for a new Director of Congregational Learning, with direct responsibility for the Blanche Bayer Religious School (BBRS), and we are extremely pleased to let you know that we have engaged Rabbi Sharon Litwin for the position. Rabbi Litwin will be starting in the role under the supervision of Rabbi Steven Bayar on April 12th. This will give her a few months to transition with Rabbi Bayar’s guidance to the full position on July 1.
As Director of Congregational Learning, Rabbi Litwin will have curricular and administrative responsibility for our Blanche Bayar Religious School (K-12) and help facilitate and guide lifelong learning opportunities for children, families and adults in our shul.
The search committee was unanimous in their recommendation to hire Rabbi Litwin. She has nine years of experience as Director of Education and Associate Rabbi in Ridgewood, has been involved in Jewish education for 25 years in camps, youth groups and schools, bringing an overwhelming love for Judaism, Israel, Jewish education, children and community to this position.
In her own words she has “… been put on this earth to be an educator, to do what I have always done and to do it with love and compassion for the children, with serious goals and standards for the teachers and students, with an eye on Jewish community and continuity.” She has made a commitment to be very visible in our community by attending Shabbat dinners, Friday night and Shabbat morning services several times every month.
We would like to thank the search committee members Heather Adelman, Debra Nevas, David Hirschfeld, Sara Sherman, Paula Touger, Lisa Biller, Maureen Genderson, Shari Brandt and Amy Alpert for their time, dedication and thoroughness during the process.
