Support Us

Since 1924, members of Congregation B’nai Israel have understood that support for this synagogue is a crucial form of tzedakah, bringing meaning to our lives and perpetuating the Judaism we love. It is through the generosity of congregants that the synagogue has thrived for generations.

Together, we can continue to maintain and build our exceptional variety of daily and special event programs, create innovative new projects and initiatives, further establish our position as a caring and dynamic Conservative synagogue and plan for tomorrow so that generations to come may experience all that CBI has to offer.

Donations to Commemorate a Life Cycle Event

A contribution to CBI is a meaningful way to express affection or appreciation for an individual at an important occasion. Tribute gifts can acknowledge births or deaths, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, graduations, weddings, anniversaries, Yahrzeits, professional accomplishments, and other special events. The donations help support the many educational, musical, spiritual and community activities and services that are a part of our synagogue life. Click here for a description of fund options.

Legacy Circle / Planned Giving

Our Legacy Circle seeks to preserve and strengthen what past generations have created here in Millburn. A legacy gift ensures that our future generations have a community in which to develop the same firm commitment to Judaism and its ethical values as our ancestors did before us.

High Holiday Appeal

This annual campaign is the primary development initiative for the congregation. Gifts to the Appeal help bridge the gap between membership dues and actual operating costs. Gifts to the Appeal also make sure that the synagogue never has to refuse membership to anyone who wants to be a part of this community, whatever their financial means. All gifts are meaningful and very much appreciated.

In Memoriam

There are a number of ways to honor and ensure a loved one’s memory will be an enduring blessing:

Yahrzeit Donation Fund

CBI offers a memorial prayer during Kabbalat Shabbat preceding the Yahrzeit for departed loved ones. The Clergy Office mails reminders to members a few weeks in advance of a loved one’s Yahrzeit. It is traditional for members to make a memorial contribution for the Yahrzeit.

To make a donation, please use our convenient Yahrzeit Donation Form.

Memorial Plaques

Congregation B’nai Israel has a tradition of offering memorial plaques to those who wish to remember loved ones in this customary manner.

  • Acrylic Yahrzeit Plaques are available for a $180 donation each and are hung in the Main Sanctuary above yahrzeit candles on the Sabbath preceding the Yahrzeit.
  • Bronze Memorial Plaques are available for a $2,000 donation each and are permanently affixed in the Main Sanctuary.

Yizkor “In Memoriam” Book

As part of High Holy Day observance, we invite congregants to honor the memories of departed family and friends in our special “In Memoriam” Yizkor booklet. Display copies are available in the lobby of the synagogue on Kol Nidre and Yom Kippur and again for Sukkot, Pesach and Shavuot. The cost to list each person’s name is $9.00. Information about adding names to the booklet is mailed each summer.
