As we look back on the fun-filled summer days and nights, we also look ahead to the new adventures that await us at The Preschool at CBI. There are all types of emotions before the first day of school. All of these emotions may change daily and all are acceptable to feel. As the new Director of Early Childhood Education, I am full of the emotion of excitement. I’m excited to welcome our students in with a big smile and the invitation to start their journeys to their love of exploration and learning.
I am often asked what a family should say to their preschooler on the first day of school. Talk about your child’s feelings — it’s okay to feel nervous and reinforce how much they are loved. Keep conversations positive — let them know that school is a fun place full of adventure where they’ll learn lots of new things. In my experience, I find that preparing yourself and your preschooler the night before school starts helps the morning go more smoothly. Read a book about the first day of school. Empower your preschooler to choose their outfit. This teaches the value of making their own good choices. Don’t forget lots of big hugs!
Learning is like a big hug. Great ideas and concepts embrace the preschoolers here at The Preschool at CBI. I can’t think of a better gift than to be able to support a young child’s first learning experience.
My words to the preschoolers will always be: What you think matters. Make good choices. Be the friend you want to have. You can make a difference in the world. Today is going to be a great day!
